Videotape formats we supply: MP4 & AVI Samples
MP4 Video format is the standard format we supply video tapes to clients. It plays back on
all modern equipment like Smart TV’s and is usualy supplied on a USB key. Download it
and copy to a USB key to try it.
(If it won’t download by left clicking… try right clicking “save link as”)
For the techncial: the specs are identical to the AVI except we use use H264 codec
compression to make the MP4 obtaining about a 9x compression. We normally encode
around the 3.6mb CBR data rate which is quite high but gives slightly better quality.
It does vary however depending on the file length as we keep them under 4gig in size so
they fit on a standard format (Fat32) USB key.
AVI Video format is how your video tape is captured into our computers it is highly
uncompressed taking up about 13 gigabytes per hour. As each frame is an actual
picture editing is a lot easier (no lag) and the quality is slightly better as it has not been
compressed. It only plays back on certain equipment so if you are not a technical type I
do not recommend it.
The format for Australian tapes is 720 x 576 at 25 frames (interlaced lower field) which
is how it was recorded onto the tape originally. We don’t change it as it can only degade
the quality. Download it to your computer if want to try editing with it.
